NQcast44 – Wii Scream U Scream

In our penultimate episode of 2012, the No Quarters crew decided to stop screwing around and finally talk about games. Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and The Walking Dead get a lot of time, as do Dishonored, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Borderlands 2, Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed and Playstation Plus. B-tier games like Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier and NeverDead make guest appearances. Also, 0% of the crew are interested in the Wii U and yet 25% of the crew bought one. Hear that exciting story and more coming up next (well, whenever you click play) on No Quarters!

NQcast44 – Wii Scream U Scream

First half!

  • Call of Duty Black Ops 2 (We like CODBLOPS2! We hear it has multiplayer. And zombies. And single player, too? Also, like an hour of credits? SO MUCH GAME!)
  • The Walking Dead (Chuck and Maki love the hell out of this game. Yes, it’s a game. The only spoiler is that it will be on at least 2 FOTY lists this year!)
  • Wii U (Chuck bought a Wii U. We don’t understand it either. It’s finished updating the firmware, at least!)
  • Borderlands: Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage (We spend way too long debating swearing in video games before saying how much we enjoy Mr. Torgue!)
  • XCOM: Enemy Unknown (Harlo gets frustrated by the amazing difficulty of this game. At least Dark Souls doesn’t lull you into a sense of safety first, right?)

Second Half! (1:26:21)

  • Dishonored (BJ enjoys the atmosphere and powers in this cool game! Listener Ryan sends an e-mail and gives us these pro tips for the game!)
    • It’s worth noting that the bone charms seem randomized, in my stealth run I picked up a “faster choke dudes out” charm which helped immensely though in my future runs never saw it again.
    • Want to drop assassinate a dude but don’t have a ledge above him? No problem! You can use blink to teleport above him and then bury your sword into his throat as you fall.
    • The upgraded agility allows you to jump *just* high enough to assassinate tall boy riders.
    • Placing a mine on a rat, possessing said rat, and running it into a few guards is an effective and hilarious tactic.
    • Weepers are people too and count towards your killing total, the game hints at this (I think) by having them warm themselves by fire and other “human” things they’ll do.
    • If someone sees you but isn’t fully alerted yet you can blink behind them and either sneak away or choke them out without raising an alarm.
    • The quieter boots upgrade is almost game breakingly good.
    • And finally the fully upgraded pistol could carry out an entire genocide on its own, it seriously wrecks face.
  • Asura’s Wrath (Maki and Chuck play and enjoy the hell out of this utterly insane Japanese combination of Bayonetta, Space Harrier and God of War.)
  • Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (Chuck has fun soldiering in the future with this Bad Company-ish third person shooter. Everyone else just wants to build guns with their Kinect!)
  • Neverdead (Chuck tries out this dismemberment simulator game… thing.)
  • Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (Ok, this cart racer is just weird. And totally random with Sega references. No Seaman level, though.)
  • Assassin’s Creed 3 (Maki continues, but Harlo sells his copy and never looks back. This is what happens when your game has no hook to keep you playing it.)
  • Need For Speed Most Wanted: Non-Razor Callahan Edition (Harlo, Chuck & Maki play some online and have some fun with it, but little compels any of us to stay in this game single-player.)
  • Forza Horizon (We talk a lot about the music in these games, but the fact of the matter is Forza does basically EVERYTHING better than NFSMW:NRCE.)
  • Pinball FX2: Marvel Civil War (Chuck gets bored with the arcadey-ness of the new table. Are we done with non-sim pinball games?)
  • Pinball Arcade: Twilight Zone (It’s out for iOS! Will we ever get it on 360?)
  • Mobile Corner!
    • Gravity Rush (Despite the generic name, Harlo has a ton of fun with this gravity shifting crazy game on Vita!)
    • Dikembe Mutombo’s 4 ½ Weeks To Save The World (An 8-bit arcade game in Flash starring Dikembe Mutombo. That seems to fit our sensibilities exactly.)
    • Vectrex Regeneration (Vector games emulated on iOS? Yes, please!)
    • Curiosity: What’s Inside The Cube? (Spoiler: Your wasted life.)

Listener Voicemail! (2:41:53)

  • Sonny California asks us about a new variation on Skylanders involving ice cream. (Our tiny brains can’t comprehend Skylanders crossed with ice cream. This leads to idiocy. As usual. Thanks, Sonny California.)
