This episode we gush almost endlessly about Arkham City, the sequel to the best Batman game ever. Does it live up to its predecessor? We also talk Forza 4, Rage, but really, it’s mostly Batman. We take Twitter questions and, as always, value picks! Enjoy!
NQcast29 – ‘BatMerch’ Show Notes
First half!
- X-Men Destiny (Maki reminds you not to buy it. Ever. Unless you want about 800 quick achievement points. Then rent it.)
- Batman: Arkham City (We heard something happens to his parents. We also heard that this game is kind of amazing. Wait, we said that!)
- Forza Motorsport 4 (BJ & Maki go nuts over the Top Geariness of this More Of The Same Sequel. They also make fun of Deloreans and cheap opponent drivers.)
- Burnout Crash (Harlo eats crow by loving the hell out of this and its Doc-Doc-Doctor Beat soundtrack.)
- Season Passes (Maki admits he bought the Forza 4 and Gears 3 passes. Yes, he has a problem, but at least the first step is admittance.)
Second Half! (54:42)
- Rage (Harlo wishes more people had bought this amazingly beautiful game. He speaks about it, unlike the silent protagonist murderer you play in the game.)
- NBA 2K12 (Maki realizes that sim sports games have passed him by. Looks like no NBA at all this year for him. Or ever.)
- Gears of War 3 (Harlo & Maki beat it. You probably don’t want to hear any more about it, we understand. Arcade mode is fun. Ok, we’re done.)
- Demon’s Souls (Harlo inspires Maki to go back and actually play it. BJ is intrigued by the insane difficulty.)
Listener topics! (1:23:17)
- Cory from 4logpodcast Wants to know “whats it like being so amazingly awesome?” (Spoiler: Awesome!)
- Jens asks: “I am curious, what is the last game purchase that each of you truly regretted making?” (We expand it to include all-time stuff.)
Picks of Value! (1:32:55)
- Gears of War (BJ recommends you start at the beginning of the Gears saga, and do it dirt-cheap.)
- BioShock 2 (Harlo wants you to benefit where he didn’t, and get this game dirt-cheap.)
- Battlefield: Bad Company (Chuck recommends this game for the fun single player campaign, and you can get it dirt-cheap.)
- Batman: Arkham Asylum (Maki recommends 2009’s Game of the Year. You don’t get it quite dirt-cheap, but it is worth whatever price you pay.)
Third Half! (1:37:03)
- What we’re buying (We are buying video games!)
- Need For Speed: The Run (Chuck demos this but it doesn’t let you get out of the car. Wait, it has quick time events?)
- Quick Time Events (Why are they still in games? Seriously!?)
- House of the Dead Overkill: Extended Cut (They didn’t clean it up that much at all. It’s still awesome but it also still looks like crap on PS3. Sad face.)
