NQcast68 – Those Darn Amiibos

amiibos

It turns out that nobody cares about four wealthy Spanish podcasters on a weekend in Manhattan. We strayed from the formula and we paid the price. So instead, we’re back to talk about video games. The Nintendo Wii U gets a mention and with it comes talk of Disney Infinity 2.0, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8 and more. Saints Row IV: Re-elected and Gat Out Of Hell are discussed, as are Far Cry 4, Warframe, Shadow of Mordor, Never Alone and a plethora of Steam titles. Do you know what plethora means? If you do, go ahead and hit play on this latest episode.

NQcast68 – Those Darn Amiibos

First half!

  • 2:12 Harlo bought a Wii U! (Hey man, it happens to all of us.)
    • 6:45 Mario Kart 8 (Unskippable credits are the best! Also, among the Mario Kart games, this is the best!)
    • 10:00 Pikmin 3 (It’s more Pikmin! But it looks really good in HD.)
    • 11:07 Disney Infinity 2.0 (Harlo now owns like 20 figures now. Yes, he’s back down that rabbithole.)
    • 16:08 Hyrule Warriors (Harlo doesn’t know much about Zelda or Dynasty Warriors but he knows he really likes this game!)
  • 24:36 Saints Row 4: Re-Elected/Gat Out of Hell (Chuck returns to the SR world on the PS4. They fixed the framerate issues, but that might not be enough. At least Gat Out of Hell is all new stuff!)
  • 32:47 Halo: Master Chief Collection (Maki realizes why Halo appeals to people and finds it appeals to him, too! Somehow.)
  • 45:30 Playstation Plus Corner!
    • 45:56 Transistor (Harlo gets into the atmosphere of this game from the makers of Bastion. He also hammers the “hum” button.)
    • 51:47 Rogue Legacy (BJ gets rogueish with this roguelike! Will he eventually get The One? Or just IBS this time?)
  • 1:00:16 The Forest (Harlo tries this survival game and is cool with it until OH GOD NIGHT MONSTER SPIDER PEOPLE.)
  • 1:03:35 The Long Dark (This early access game lets Harlo survive in a way he prefers, by maybe shooting an animal or two.)
  • 1:08:26 Lifeless Planet (Harlo decides trying to survive on Mars is more his speed in this great little indie adventure.)
  • 1:12:50 Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) (Maki experiences one of Chuck’s FOTY’s and finds it’s a truly great single-serving game.)
  • 1:19:48 Grim Fandango remastered (Harlo leads us down an adventure game nostalgia lane with this re-release of a true classic.)

Second Half! (1:29:07)

  • 1:29:50 Warframe (BJ checks back in on the free to play game on his PS4 and finds it’s a different game from what was there at launch. At least there are Space Ninjas.)
  • 1:45:06 Far Cry 4 (Maki, Harlo and Chuck mess around enjoying the mechanics of the world, even if the story doesn’t know how to give satisfying moments.)
  • 1:55:53 Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor (Chuck beats the game but Maki is struggling to keep himself interested. Push through the wall!)
  • 2:01:15 Rollers of the Realm (Harlo and Chuck play this cross between pinball and RPGs. Like pinball? Like Puzzle Quest? You might like this!)
  • 2:05:06 Octodad: Dadliest Catch (Chuck has to mow the lawn. As an octopus. It’s silly and dumb for a little while and even more fun when you have somebody watching with you!)
  • 2:08:31 Trials Fusion (Hopefully the makers of this game realize that nobody cares about stunts, but we care even less about bunny hopping over every gap. At least the first half is awesome and fun.)
  • 2:14:37 Papers Please (Chuck and Harlo feel bad about themselves as they weed out immigrants in the PC/Mac version of the game.)
  • 2:21:32 Godus (Harlo plays this Molyneux game that might get abandoned before they finish it.)
  • 2:25:37 Civilization: Beyond Earth (It’s more Civ5! On an alien planet! There are some nice twists that take advantage of that, at least.)
  • 2:27:45 Sim City 2013 (Harlo comes to the realization that newer 3D city management games might not ever work due to memory limitations.)
  • 2:33:54 Rambo: The Videogame (Chuck plays a rail shooter. On the PS4. Based on Rambo. Who died in 1988. According to this game. What!?)
  • 2:41:01 Rock Band 3 (New DLC songs prompt us to hook everything up and rock out for an afternoon. That game is still fun!)
  • 2:45:50 Mobile Corner!
    • 2:45:55 Crossy Road (It’s Frogger! Except isometric and you’re a chicken.)
    • 2:46:41 Pako: Car Chase Simulator (It’s a car chase simulator! Outrun the cops! Play this!)
  • 2:49:48 E-mail Corner!
    • 2:49:53 Jay from Cali wants to know what the saddest special edition is! (Statues. The answer is always statues.)
    • 2:52:55 Cory wants to know which universally praised games we just don’t enjoy at all! (Dead Island might get mentioned. Somehow, Maki never brings up Bayonetta, though! It’s a new record.)
