NQcast33 – ‘Randy Orton’s Terrible Theme Song’ Show Notes

First half!

  • Saints Row The Third (BJ & Harlo finish the story. BJ enjoys the craziness but dislikes the controls. Advice for next time? “Dear Volition, please unfuck your game.”)
  • Saints Row 2 (Chuck & Maki debate the merits of this prequel to Saints Row 3, and see where they fixed the tone and a lot of mechanics. Also, they spray poo on buildings!)
  • Skyrim (Harlo gives us a new entry in Tales of Skyrim™. This time we learn of how he would dispose of bodies, were he in need of doing that.)
  • Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure (Harlo begins his journey down the figure collection rabbit hole. Is it really just DLC? Our wallets shudder if they take this model and apply it to the Marvel or Transformers universes.)

Second Half! (1:01:30)

  • WWE 12 (Chuck beats it, Harlo gets frustrated, controllers get murdered! Also, fuck Sheamus… And The Miz… And Randy Orton’s intro music.)
  • Battlefield 3 (Harlo joins the single-player club. He’s not impressed with the graphics and the story doesn’t connect with him in any way. There’s your box quote!)
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops (Chuck loves it in all the ways he didn’t enjoy Battlefield 3. We all agree that Treyarch made an amazing game!)
  • Renegade Ops (Dual-stick shooter b-movie insanity by the Just Cause 2 guys? Where has this game been all our lives!?)
  • Shank (Maki returns to this side-scrolling beat-em-up… And ends up hating it by the end, sadly.)
  • Jetpack Joyride (Maki and Harlo enjoy the hell out of this free iOS game. You get to high-five scientists!)
  • Vanquish (Chuck dives into the world of Platinum games with this crazy shooter he describes as “Halo meets 9/11.” But not in a bad way!)
  • Bayonetta (Platinum time continues, as Chuck plays through it on Very Easy mode. And loves it!)
  • Shadows of the Damned (Speaking of insanity, Harlo finally gets into Garcia Fucking Hotspur’s demon-hunting, strawberry-gathering story.)
  • Dark Souls (Harlo is tempted to play this by a whole bunch of top-10 lists. Is he a bad enough dude to rescue the Dark Souls?)
  • Dragon Age Origins (Chuck goes absolutely nuts and drops 80 hours into this game. And he doesn’t even like fantasy settings! He does like dogs, though.)
  • Game (xxxx.)

Listener topic! (1:56:08)

  • Moonpir asks which games have freaked us out the most. (Scary games are mentioned! Quite a few of them, actually.)

A New Year’s Resolution! (2:04:33)

  • Maki makes his new declaration for 2012. Only 6 new games! Seriously! (The games are Diablo 3, SSX, Mass Effect 3, GTA5, Tomb Raider and Borderlands 2. The new Assassin’s Creed will be added to the list, when one of these doesn’t come out this year. Anything he’s missing? Let us know!)

Picks of Value! (2:12:53)

  • Rayman Origins (Maki loves this gorgeous side-scroller!)
  • Video Games (BJ has an emergent concept about maybe buying them!)
  • No Video Games (Chuck says to wait until Black Friday!)
  • Fable 2 (Harlo loves this game and his dog! And it’s only $5!)
  • Just Cause 2 (Harlo gives a bonus pick! This games is amazing!)

  1. Ed B. says:

    LOVING SR3.

    The game is awesome.

Also, my Scottish/British character looks a lot like Sheamus. Except I have beautiful Amazonian hair.

  2. Ed B. says:

Also, addendum – Randy Orton’s theme is “Voices” by Rev Theory. Not as awful as Creed, but damn close.

  3. MusiM says:

I don’t play many racing games but I can actually drive pretty well in a videogame for once in Saints Row the Third. Usually I can’t stay on the track worth a damn.

I do however, agree that the controls aren’t very good for SR3. Or at least I did my first few hours of the game. But at the same time I think all Rockstar games I’ve played (Red Dead R, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, LA Noire) have shit for controls and just chalked it up to the genre.

Man I’m screwed if Marvel joins the action figure RFID videogame boat. Crap if Transformers does it I’m screwed too! Matter of fact there are like fifty billion franchises that if they used that model I would have to sell the house.

Guys you really don’t give the X-Men franchise any credit. It’ll be X-Force Wolverine (who is in black and gray) will the Gamestop exclusive. James Howlett Wolverine will be the Best Buy exclusive. Naked X Wolverine will be the Target exclusive. And Amazon will give you a $20 gift card. Also if you get all five and mail in the UPC to Marvel they’ll send you Horsemen of Apocalypse Wolverine.

On Vanquish you did notice there’s different melee attacks for each weapon, yeah?

Mechanically Dark Souls is Demon’s Souls. The difference simply lies in a couple renamed stats, a better menu GUI, and a roaming world as opposed to a hub world. Aesthetic and presentation do matter so who knows, maybe it’ll make all the difference.

I had Harlo’s issue with DragonAge. I had no idea where to start when I hit the village. In Skyrim the story is good but arbitrary. In DragonAge the story is critical. Between Chuck and Justin (Tiltcast) I really want to give it another chance though.

  4. Ed B. says:

I loved DAO. I made it roughly 3/4 of the way through the game before I quit/lost interest. Want to pop it back in and then give it another whirl too.

  5. Justin Nauss says:

Glad one of you guys finally played one of my favorite games of the last five years. DAO is probably one of the most engaging old-school rpgs I’ve played due to the fantastic story telling. Hope more of you besides’ Chuck plays. For Maki, you should check out Bioshock Infinite, Darkness II, Darksiders II (if you have already played 1) and the Last Guardian. The other games on your list are on my list as well except for SSX.

Last note, Dark Souls is easier than Demon’s Souls. You don’t have to survive the whole level to checkpoint, you have bonfires and even though that respawns everything, you at least saved. I like it a hell of a lot better and it isn’t that scary if you can pace yourself. Me and Trent have both almost beat it at this point and I’m sure John (Carousel) will as well.

    Keep up the good shows!

  6. Brahmovermind says:

You guys know about this right?
